Bob Joass
„I
had originally started into motor sport by
joining up with the 500 car club and built up a
real
rough one with which I have never competed. I
exchanged it for a 1928 Buick tourer (I have no
idea why the car dealer
wanted it) and it was never seen
again....fortunately.
My next attempt was much better as by then I had
acquired welding equipment plus some machine
tools which I found
made things much easier to create as you could
imagine. I ran that car for some time in hill
climbs and some circuit
work until someone made me an offer which I
couldn't refuse. That bought me more equipment
and another gent
asked me to build a replica Cooper because he had
a 1500cc B.M.C. engine and a Derrington cylinder
head.
That car doesn't exist at all now. All those
preliminaries then led to Formula Junior which is
when I came up with the JOLUS
name which means nothing special but is simply
the way my name (Joass) is pronounced and I
decided to put the
"L" in the middle.“
